A twin city of Lonavala, Khandala is another beautiful hill station located at an altitude of 625 meters, on the western slopes of the Sahyadri Mountain Range of Western Maharashtra. Blessed with natural bounty and a pristine landscape, Khandala is immensely popular as a weekend getaway for the urban populace of the Industrial cities of Mumbai and Pune. It offers the perfect ambience to unwind and become one with the harmony of nature. The lush green envelope that encases this hill resort for most part of the year lends it, its inherent charm and majesty.

Unlike Lonavala, the history of Khandala is obscure. It is said that the founder of the Mighty Maratha Empire, Chatrapati Shivaji ruled an area around Khandala. In the later years it is supposed to have been ruled by the courageous Peshwas and finally the British took the reigns of ushering in modernization in this elfin hill resort of Maharashtra

Though the summer does not bring in much heat, Khandala should be visited during the monsoons. With the first drizzle of rain, the scenery around Khandala comes alive in full bloom, proving to be a virtual paradise for the naturalists and the environmentalists. Hence the best time to pack your bags for this charming hill station is between October and May.

What to Do in Khandala: If Khandala is visited in Monsoon, there is no dearth of activities that one can engage in. To sit idly at the steps of the waterfalls at Tiger's Leap and the Bhushi Dam and enjoy the force of the water is enjoyment personified.
Though the summer witnesses a drying up of the waterfalls and the streams, one can trek his way up the hills to reach the forts.

What to Buy from Khandala: Khandala is famous for its sweet called Chikki. Stores are thronged by the tourists all round the year to get dozens of them packed for their near and dear ones. Apart from Chikki, Vaddapao, Bhajias and Maharashtra's cutting Chai are widely available in Khandala
